Johannesburg Centre, Astronomical Society of Southern Africa

Hugh Cameron

Johannesburg Centre stalwart Hugh Cameron died of a massive stroke on August 20. A person of decided views, Hugh sometimes contributed to debate when he felt it necessary to state a contrary opinion.

Hugh's main amateur activity was occultation observing and he participated in a number of grazing occultation expeditions and observed total lunar occultations for a number of years.

For a number of years he was in poor health and spoke with difficulty because of a stroke. His interest in astronomy remained as lively as ever as those of us who continued to visit him can attest.

Our sympathies go to his sons Hugh and Ian and their families.
