Aluminising Facilities

Just a reminder to those of you who have made mirrors, or whose mirrors are getting a little rusty, that the society has its own aluminising plant. The plant can take up to a 10-inch mirror and is run by Des Fourie at his home in Highway Gardens. Des will do your diagonal free of charge, if done at the same time as the main mirror. He can be contacted on 974-4676.

Friday night open evening at the Observatory

Constant Volshenk conducts an open evening at the Observatory on the Friday night nearest to new moon. The evening is open to all and begins at about 8.00 p.m. Contact Constant at the Planetarium to check for details.

Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be held on July 8th and there was some talk of combining this with an observing evening so that whole night would not be one long boring round of speeches. Not that it’s really boring to hear what’s going on in the society - for the times they are a’changing. Actually, you might start thinking about nominations for the committee - they could always do with some fresh blood.

AS&TS Science "Faire"

AS&TS may be having a science "do" at the observatory from August 20th to September 10th as their contribution to the Year of Science and Technology. If this comes to fruition then the society will probably be involved, to some extent. Watch this space for possible news.
