The discovery of what may turn out to be the brightest Southern Hemisphere Nova in the last 54 years was announced just as we were going to press ( 23rd May ).
A diagram is included which should enable readers to locate the Nova with a little help from Norton’s Star Atlas. It was discovered by Peter Williams of Australia on 22nd May 1999 and is currently at magnitude 3.0. Position is 10h 44.7m, -52 deg 23' ( 2000.0 ).
