A Message to our Descendents
I received the following from a regular contributer to the Arthur C
Clarke Internet Fan Club of which I am a member........Chris.
The KEO project is a French effort to preserve a piece of our heritage
for distant generations.
The spacecraft, so named because "K", "E", "O" are the most common
phonemes in Earth's major languages, would fly in a high Earth orbit for
50,000 years starting in 2001, carrying written greetings from ordinary
people along with biological samples and a comprehensive library of
human knowledge.
The Web site has more information about the project and a form for
users to submit their own greetings to be carried on the spacecraft.
I urge everyone who reads this letter to check this site out. It is
really a fantastic project that makes one think about our species' place
in the grand scheme of time and space, and really forces you to take a
hard look at the past and future of humanity.
