What with Mars Fever reaching boiling point, I've been asked to recommend a good astronomy website that beginners can sink their teeth into. I'd like to point you to the excellent
http://www.astronomynotes.com/
which should get you started. There's also the decent
which contains some topical Mars info, and lots of links.
Ever been unsure which camera settings to use when pointing it at a darkened sky? Check out

for a JavaScript demonstration of various astrophotography measurements.
The Mail & Guardian and the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) have again joined forces to present the second round of South Africa's only photographic competition specifically aimed at illustrating and communicating the excitement and impact of science. The competition is open to professional photographers and amateurs with an enthusiasm for science, technology and medicine. Images from all aspects of science are eligible.
