As Dave reported at the meeting on Wednesday, we took some shots of NGC 6300 in Ara. This is the result - 5x 150 second exposures that were aligned and stacked. I've done a fairly strong contrast stretch to make it easier to see, but nothing else.
The galaxy is described as very large, but with a low surface brightness. Integrated, it has magnitude +11.0, but this translates to magnitude +22.0 per sq.arcsec, when you image it. That is pretty faint!
For comparison, the stars on either side of the galactic nucleus are magnitude +5.5 and are completely saturated in the images.
